2017 Syrah, Bismark Vineyard
Syrah, a dark-skinned red wine grape most commonly found in the northern Rhone Valley, can be made in a variety of styles. For the 2017 vintage, we included 35% whole cluster, which provides texture to the wine as well as Inviting aromas of blackberry, white pepper, and violets meet the nose. The wine has a medium-full body on the palate with notes of Kalamata olives, baking spices, chocolate, and black cherry. This wine loves the company of Prime Rib, roast leg of lamb, and Christmas Eve dinner.
The Vineyard
Bismark Vineyard is located in the Mayacamas Mountains, high above the city of Sonoma, in the sub-appellation of Moon Mountain District. This vineyard sits above the fog line at 2,100 ft. If you look closely, you can even see the Golden Gate Bridge from this vineyard! While fairly sunny throughout the day, the high elevation keeps temperatures down resulting in well-balanced fruit with moderate yields, perfect for Syrah.
