2018 Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast, WestLands
Library Wine | 92 points - Wine Enthusiast
Harnessing the cool-climate acidity with a deft hand, our winemaker crafted this beautiful Pinot for extended cellaring. Five years tucked away has delivered great depth, revealing savory, wild aromas, redcurrant preserve, and anise notes, leading to an elegant, long finish.
About this wine
The WestLands Pinot Noir is our nod to capturing the essence of the west Sonoma Coast. It is barrel-selected from our favorite vineyards west of Sebastopol. All the vineyards used for this wine are in close proximity to each other and are within ten miles of the Pacific Ocean. This proximity ensures the sites are consistently cooled by sweeping ocean breezes and frequently blanketed by dense morning fog, dramatically extending the growing season.
This maritime influence is essential, as it encourages slow, steady ripening which builds deep, intricate flavors and maintains high natural acidity. The resulting grapes offer highly concentrated character, yielding a wine with exceptional structure, complexity, and inherent age-worthiness.
“Bright, fresh and forested, with a crispness of pomegranate and orange, this red is sourced from several sites. Moderate richness boosts the tangy acidity and structure.” Virginie Boone, Wine Enthusiast 2021
