La Colline, embodies Anaba’s founding vision and was inspired by owner John Sweazey’s profound experience in France’s Northern Rhône. It’s a wine of exceptional depth and character. The nose offers a tapestry of olive tapenade, subtle black pepper, and black currant. The palate unfolds with layers of bright strawberry, fresh black plum, and clove, all framed by firm tannins and a rich, structured oak finish.
La Colline, meaning “the hillside,” is the culmination of a decades-long dream inspired by owner John Sweazey’s profound experience in the Northern Rhône Valley. It was there, atop a hill overlooking the Rhône River, that a visit with winemaker Max Chapoutier in the 1970s ignited his vision to create a serious, high-quality Rhône-style blend in California. Moved by the region’s spirit of family and hospitality, John returned home to pursue this dream. When Winemaker Katy Wilson joined Anaba in 2014, they discussed this wine and after years of seeking just the right vineyards to craft it, she brought this vision to life, sourcing fruit from three unique Sonoma mountain vineyards to create this inaugural vintage. This blend of 50% Syrah, 25% Mourvèdre, and 25% Grenache was aged for 22 months in French oak, resulting in a wine with exceptional quality and a genuine connection to its French heritage.
