2022 Petite Sirah Teldeschi Vineyard
94 points - Vinous, Antonio Galloni
In the heart of Dry Creek Valley, Ray Teldeschi’s meticulous farming gives us fruit of remarkable quality. The volcanic soil and warm valley days yield a wine of striking inner perfume and tons of character. Antonio Galloni called this vintage “Potent and explosive,” and you’ll know why from the very first sip.
About this wine
The Teldeschi Vineyard, nestled in the heart of Dry Creek Valley, is the source of this exceptional Petite Sirah. We partner with Ray Teldeschi, who grew up on the Home Ranch and has lived there his entire life, resulting in an unparalleled understanding of the vineyard and the quality of the fruit it yields each year. The vineyard’s easterly slope features volcanic soil that contributes a signature spice to the fruit. The southern exposure guarantees warm days followed by cool nights – the perfect conditions for developing intense red varietals.
Crafted by Winemaker Katy Wilson, this wine has quite the following and is fun to make each year. It is deep and complex. The nose is powerfully aromatic, suggesting intense blackberry, cracked black pepper, and subtle smoked bacon. On the palate, you’ll find lush dark plum and boysenberry, balanced by savory spice and smooth tannins. This robust wine shows deep layers of dark fruit, spice, and earth, evoking flavors of dark chocolate, licorice, cloves, leather, and sage. The finish is smooth and lush, leaving a lingering violet note.
Given its robust profile, this wine shines alongside rich foods. Try it with braised short ribs to echo its richness, or a roasted eggplant tagine to highlight its peppery spice.
“The 2022 Petite Sirah Teldeschi Home Ranch is redolent of blackberry jam, dark chocolate, licorice, cloves, new saddle leather and sage. Potent and explosive, with striking inner perfume and tons of character, the 2022 has a lot to recommend it.” ~Antonio Galloni, Vinous
