2022 Pinot Noir, Sangiacomo Roberts Road
94 Points - Wine Enthusiast
Another year, another gorgeous expression of this site. Complex, silky, and seamlessly integrated, our Roberts Road Pinot Noir remains a favorite vintage after vintage. Pure aromas of ripe raspberry and fresh strawberry are accented by a savory hint of sage, leading to a juicy, red-fruit-driven palate. A touch of orange peel and integrated oak spices linger on the polished, long finish. It’s an absolute stunner.
About this wine
The fruit for our Sangiacomo Roberts Road Pinot Noir comes from one of Sonoma’s most respected farming families. Planted in 1999, the Roberts Road Vineyard is a cornerstone of the Petaluma Gap AVA, a region defined by the maritime winds we love for their cooling influence. For much of the day, the vines are tucked under a blanket of fog, allowing for a slow, steady ripening process. Our specific block sits on the well-draining, silty gravel soils at the western base of Sonoma Mountain.
We value our long-standing partnership with the Sangiacomos, third-generation farmers who understand the nuances of this northern Petaluma Gap site. The 2022 season provided the perfect conditions for a Pinot Noir that is both concentrated and delicate. This vintage is a clear reflection of the vineyard’s character: refined, vibrant, and deeply expressive of its cool-climate roots.
The 2022 season was steady and focused, allowing us to harvest fruit with excellent purity. In the Petaluma Gap, the cooling influence kept temperatures moderate, which is essential for preserving the delicate red fruit character of Pinot Noir. This vintage highlights the silky texture we look for, offering a clear window into the character of one of the Sonoma Coast’s most respected vineyards.
“The 2022 Pinot Noir Sangiacomo Roberts Road Ranch is a gorgeous, complex wine. Dried herbs, mint, incense, tobacco, crushed flowers and spice give the Sangiacomo its beguiling, wonderfully complex personality. Readers will find a mid-weight, expressive Pinot redolent of savory and earthy undertones.” – By Antonio Galloni on January 2025
