The Soberanes vineyard has been one of Proprietor John Sweazey’s favorite vineyards outside of Sonoma for many years. In this vintage, the palate presents a textured richness of black cherry and mulling spices, without being too heavy, leading to a lingering finish. One taste and you’ll know why it’s a standout!
Sourced from the renowned Soberanes Vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands, this wine is the ultimate expression of the decades-long friendship of the Pisoni and Franscioni families, growers known for their high-quality vineyards. Winemaker Katy Wilson brings this fruit to life, aging it for 20 months to develop its textured character and nuanced flavors. On the nose, it offers pretty, juicy plum alongside crushed cherry and strawberry. The palate is deeply textured, revealing layers of black cherry and mulling spices that carry through to a lingering finish.
The 2022 vintage in the Santa Lucia Highlands was defined by a swift, high-intensity growing season that favored quality over quantity. Though a dry winter and persistent drought challenged the vines, the result was an early harvest of exceptional concentration, yielding balanced wines defined by their vibrant, fruit-forward energy.
“Santa Lucia Highlands Pinots are often done in a richer style. It’s illuminating to see what a lighter hand can do with this fruit. Superb.” ~ Antonio Galloni
