This wine isn’t just something for the holiday table, it's one to be enjoyed with friends and family so that you may have your own memories of it.

Casandra Knox, Estate Director

Syrah is like family to me.  Growing up in the Napa Valley, my Grandad and I used to go hunting up on Howell Mountain, always savoring an open fire after our day in the wilderness.  The 2019 Anaba Bismark Syrah reminds me of these outings and this special time with family.  This is all we would hope for you and your family – to have our wines tied to your own experiences.  While you huddle around your hearth at home with the meats and stews of the season, drink some of our 95 Point (Wine Advocate) Syrah from the dark volcanic soils of the Moon Mountain AVA.  This wine isn’t just something for the holiday table, it’s one to be enjoyed with friends and family so that you may have your own memories of it.

Bismark Vineyard is located in the Mayacamas Mountains high above the city of Sonoma, in the sub-appellation of Moon Mountain District. The soils in this vineyard are rocky and well draining. Sitting at an elevation high above the fog line at 2,100 feet, this steeply sloped vineyard benefits from cooler air temperatures, yet intense sunlight, adding to the depth of this wine.

“The 2019 Syrah Bismark Vineyard has a deep ruby-purple color and rich aromas of cassis, coffee beans, chargrill, white pepper and menthol. The full-bodied palate is powerful and richly fruited, with an abundance of rounded tannins and a long flavorful finish with lingering floral accents. This deserves another 3-5 years in bottle and will be long lived in the cellar.”

The nose introduces notes of fresh black pepper, star anise, cured meat, and wild blueberry. On the palate, flavors of blackberry and blueberry emerge, accompanied by subtle hints of vanilla, all within a full-bodied experience. The finish is marked by a peppery quality and lingering tannins, complemented by a subtly balanced oak presence.
